Incidents on Scratch Storage Cleanup

Published by DICC

Greetings HPC User,

We are sorry to inform you that there was an oversight during the scheduled Scratch Storage cleanup where many files older than 90 days are deleted even if the files are actively in use. We are aware that some users are confused why their files were deleted even though the files are used on a daily basis.

After the investigation, we found out that there was an oversight on the Scratch Storage configuration where access time for all the files located in the Scratch Storage are not being updated properly. This means that, during the scheduled cleanup session today, all the files that are created before 01 September 2024 were wiped. If you are installing software packages in Scratch Storage, it is very likely that those software packages were wiped during the cleanup.

We are truly sorry about the oversight, but currently there is no way we can recover those files as there are no backup and restore mechanisms planned for the Scratch Storage. We would like to remind you that, please keep your important files in home storage to avoid potential disruption on the Scratch Storage in the future.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience caused. If you have any questions, please let us know by creating a ticket in the service desk.

Thank you.
